Description

Felt like painting an other great model from D.A, so I started to look for a great shot, browsing D.A

AS usual, I didn't found anything from my own; and felt on blackfantastix 's gallery trought other people fav's !

It was fun to realize that, in the end, I knew her gallery since her early beginning at D.A; and used to like it a lot.
Dunno how I lost trace... maybe it's because I rarely give a devwatch in general, I prefer going to someone 's gallery by my own; I dunno, I'm kinda weird sometimes

Well well well.... I had lots of great shots as choice, but I decided to focus on what I like the most in general : face; and I was really happy to find this shot !

painting a Face looks easy to paint in general, but be aware that; especially at that size it's NOT !
Really not.
you have all the small details to pay attention to.
Eyes, reflects , iris, skin texture, colors (skin is not just about a pale brown color; NEVER do that mistake )

Hair being the true pain in general, but even more here.
for MY part, painting hair on canvas is way harder than on smooth surfaces, I have to say i'm not expecially good at this.
The main problem here was to reproduce the original color and Hell if I had hard times with that !
I think I had to paint 5/6 different coats to achieve this... and it's still not exactly match it !
Took some liberties about the haircut, but it's because I'm lazy.

--------THE PLAN------------------------------

Awwww.... no plans. Just wanted to be the closest as possible regarding the original shot.

This was not my attention while paiting previous other model from D.A however:

Well ,ok I used my classical blue reflexion light, But I like this stufff SOOOO much !!

------------------------------------------
This time it's a scan, not a photo, so better quality; erf needed 9 scans Btw !

------IF SOMEONE IS INTERESTED BY THE PROCEED-----

-I start with LIGHT pencils (2H) on the canvas. the fact it's a soft grey allow me not to trash the whole canvas when my palm slide over the pencil !
- I paint the shadows. it's mostly inkwash colors. shad will remains very liquid, with very soft opacity.
- I then, paint dark to light; the brighter it is, the stonger the colors are, opacity is bigger.
-I use the airbrush to link some tones here and there; and to correct the shads.
- Then, I don't touch the pic for almost 3 weeks.

--When I get back on it, I generally have a brand new look on it, and then I'm able to correct what I would have not saw before.
-In the last steps I come back to the airbrush with a very diluated color that I apply on the whole pic to link the whole values.
-some post work is about detailling small thing ( moslty eyes and eyelashes :)

TOOLS:
-Painted on canvas.
-70x49 cm / 27 x19,5"

Wow, you used the materials you had perfectly! I absolutely love the eyes and the vivid hair as well! :)
